Chapter 13 Summary

• In this chapter, many of the methods used to analyse and record data in sports biomechanics have been introduced.
• Biomechanical researchers have proposed models to apply the principles of mechanics to qualitative analysis of human movement.
• Many authors have made contributions to this area, however only a selected number were reviewed.
• The reader is introduced to qualitative models and quantitative techniques and their appropriateness is discussed.
• Quantitative techniques used to measure specific biomechanical parameters include force plates, EMG, cinematography, accelerometry and isokinetic dynamometers to name but a few.
• Some advantages, limitations and reporting methods are covered.
